About the department

The Department of Sport and Health Sciences offers you a dynamic and multidisciplinary environment with an established international research and teaching reputation. We provide a student experience aimed at developing advanced professional skills and knowledge and adding value to the workplace.

We offer flexible undergraduate, postgraduate and research opportunities across a range of disciplines including occupational therapy, physiotherapy, rehabilitation, nutrition, exercise science and sports coaching.

Internationally-recognised research underpins our teaching and provides the foundation for the development of leading-edge practice across our subject areas. For example, the Department is involved in testing the glycaemic index of foods for Tesco, optimising the performance of elite athletes and improving the lives of patients with neurological conditions through exercise rehabilitation.

We pride ourselves on linking our teaching with application and industry. The Department’s strong links with local, national and global organisations including the NHS, leisure clubs, schools, the food industry and the government, as well as private sectors, provide excellent placement, research and employment opportunities.

You will also develop your knowledge and skills through access to our first-rate facilities including state-of-the-art clinical simulation and professional skills development suites and our British Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences accredited laboratory.

Our comprehensive support package includes academic and pastoral guidance, financial support and a career development programme. The quality of our student support and our emphasis on lifelong learning skills is consistently praised by quality assurance reviewers, employers and our students.
